Why is this happening?

Suffering is virtually inexplainable. Especially the “Why?” question. We cannot wrap our minds around it. We would like to create a world free of any kind of pain and suffering, but to do so, it has to be a highly controlled world where everyone is basically a puppet.
Paul said we were ‘in Christ’ in sharing his suffering. We can't give you an appropriate theology about suffering that will lessen it’s pain. There simply isn’t one. Even Jesus cried out during his suffering. Pain and suffering is awful. So, the question isn’t “Why?”, but “How do we move thru suffering?”
